Bleach a Shirt for Sublimation Printing

Today we’re going to be bleaching sublimation T-shirts. So we’ve already pointed out some of the designs. You can take the small or big design as per your need. So just depends on whatever you want to do, whether you have a smaller or a bigger printer. However, you should have the best sublimation printer for t-shirt for the most attractive results!

Now the T-shirts we like to use are the Gildan Softstyle Heather. Make sure they are 65 poly. You really want this when you come to bleach sublimation. You need the high count poly as you can get. That’s what’s going to make this very successful.

Preparation of Sublimation Shirt For Bleaching

The first thing we need to do is pull out any sort of moisture. So now set the heat press to 400 degrees for 60 seconds. The temperature would be the exact same if you are using a Cricut EasyPress. Then just pull up the moisture of the T-shirt. We’ll take it back over, lint rolls T-shirt. You don’t want to skip this, even though you’re working with bleach. You do not want to skip that step.

So next step, we’re going to figure out the center of the design. Fold it in half, just to kind of get a little crease.

You need to line this up where you want it to be and then apply some heat tape. And then, take it back over to the press and get it on there. Now you could have done this over at the heat press, but sometimes you need to take it back to the table to make sure everything is lined up.

Sublimate it to 400 degrees for 60 seconds. So once you are done with that, you need to pop it back open, and boom!

Now you can leave the T-shirt like this. we’ve talked to you guys about that in the past blogs. So you’re going to need a trash bag or cardboard to go in between the T-shirts in the center and just a cheap paintbrush.

These are like 89 cents, so just cheap paintbrushes. Then you need a cup of some sort. You could use a glass jar, whatever you want to. They were super cheap. You want Clorox bleach. You could definitely use an off-brand if you want to, but you want to use straight bleach. You’re not going to add any water. And you just need a very, very small amount. Just pour a tagged it in there, and put your lid on and you’re good to go.

Something about like this, we’re ready to go. Alright, so we’re gonna go outside. we have custom-built a stand. You may be using the ground, so you just put your trash bag in between your T-shirt.

Once again, if you were just…You just lay it on the ground or your porch. Go ahead and dip the paintbrush, and then we’re going to remove any excess. And then what you’re going to do is just simply start painting. You could go all the way across the design. You could do brushstrokes if you wanted to.

But we recommend you completely start out by outlining my design. Sticking more of a circle, just kind of nice and smooth, going all the way around the design. Now once again, you could just completely go over the entire design at one time. But it’s pretty cool to save it up till last because you can see your whole outline and all of that. So you can see how fast the sun is already starting to do the process.

You’re just making sure you’re covering everything. And if you notice that you miss a spot, go back and go over it again. So now just take a paintbrush and just slinging it all over the T-shirt. You could take a spray bottle at this point, and do big sprays so you get big, you know, splatters and stuff like that.

You could do whatever you want to do. You’re only gonna let it sit in the sun for maybe five minutes. And then, just until you start to notice it turning white like it’s done here. And then, we’ll take it inside.

After that just rinsed it in my sink with cold water and a little bit of soap, and then put it through the dryer. This is exactly what it’d look like for the rest of its life And this is it. Now you know How To Bleach Shirt For Sublimation and How super cute is this!

Final-Words!

In conclusion, bleaching a shirt is a necessary step before sublimating it. It prepares the fabric for the transfer of ink and helps to ensure that the image is bright and clear. I would definitely recommend bleaching it before sublimating. It’s a good idea to do this before you begin because otherwise the bleach will set in and cause the ink transfer to fail. By following these simple steps To Bleach Shirt For Sublimation, you can create your own custom-made t-shirts that are perfect and unique shirts that will last longer and be enjoyed by many for any occasion!
